Description

“When you come to the fork in the road, take it.”  – Yogi Berra
This is the story of roads taken and not taken. Whichever fork in the road you chose, there are consequences. The Interstate Highway Act created the largest government public works project in American History. It reveals big government at its best and at its worst as well as the power and limitations of the national government in our federal system. It organized highways into a uniform system across the country. But construction also required destruction.  New freedoms and opportunities for some left others behind. This class will explore these themes and the unintended consequences with which we still live.
