Description

As the lines between traditional news outlets and entertainment grow ever murkier, how can you tell what information is credible and what is “fake?”  Learn some tools for determining whether to trust what you see or read. Dr. Lara Zwarun, whose research expertise centers on persuasion in the media, will discuss the technological, economic, and social factors that led to the ‘fake news’ controversy, and provide practical tips for being more media literate. Her work has appeared in journals including Media Psychology, American Journal of Public Health, and Journal of Broadcasting and Electronic Media. Dr. Zwarun is a former University of Missouri System Presidential Engagement Scholar, one of 15 faculty chosen to share their research contributions with Missouri residents around the state.
