Beautifying the Word of God: Calligraphy, the First Islamic Art; “Divine Beauty, Human Creativity: Islamic and Christian Perspectives on Religion, Culture, and Art”; laying out the larger historical/geographical picture of Islam’s origin and spread. Explore major literary forms; regional styles; interpreting images – modes of “visual exegesis”; painters and patrons.
