Description
Missouri was a border state during the Civil War. Much of the rural state favored the confederacy. Abraham Lincoln feared Missouri would secede from the Union. It did not. Pro-union sentiment was concentrated in St. Louis. This two session presentation examines the circumstances leading up to the War in Missouri and the actions of political and military leaders in St. Louis in the early days of the war. It examines the role of the German and Irish immigrants.
