This class explores how and when familiar symbols came to represent the United States, including the American flag, bald eagle, Great Seal, and “E Pluribus Unum.” We will also examine landmarks and cultural icons such as the Statue of Liberty, Mount Rushmore, the White House, Uncle Sam, baseball, the cowboy, and Route 66, uncovering the history and meaning behind them.
