Description

Reforming the nation began in 1800 with a wave of Christian evangelism known as the 2nd Great Awakening.  As abolition and the women’s movement began in the 1830’s, it would become part of the political agenda.  The movement would involve ongoing efforts to restructure American government and society, focusing on enhancing democratic integrity, economic efficiency, and social equality.  Key eras include the early 19th-century abolition and temperance movements, the post-Civil War Reconstruction amendments, the early 20th-century Progressive Era which targeted corruption, poverty, and industrial ills and the Civil Rights Era.
