Description
The Massachusetts Bay Colony was settled in 1630 as a strict religious community that would serve as a moral example to the world. It was governed as a theocracy in which political power and voting rights were strictly limited to male members of the Puritan church. Dissenters who challenged Puritan orthodoxy were banished or executed. By the end of the century the colony was seized by mass hysteria leading to the Salem Witch Trials, the subject of The Crucible. This program will explore how the events came about and how they occurred!
