This seminar will illustrate the backstory, historical events, landmark court cases, curriculum, and context of “how we got here” with an eye on public education in St. Louis! The journey through the eras of the past century will illustrate how public schools have become the sandbox for local, state, and federal laws; community norms; desegregation; current events, legislation (funding and the culture wars) and the struggle for the promise of America.
