Description
The history of Thanksgiving extends far beyond a single feast. This class explores early European exploration and the 1620 settlement of Plymouth, the relationship between the English colonists and the Wampanoag Nation, and the events that culminated in King Philip’s War (1675–76). Participants will also examine how Thanksgiving evolved into a national holiday with President Abraham Lincoln’s 1863 proclamation, separating historical fact from popular tradition.
