Description
Washington was born into a "middling" plantation family in Virginia. After the death of his father at age 11, he had to make his way in the world. With the social and political connections of his older half-brother and a very auspicious marriage, he was able to enter the upper echelon of Virginia society. As an adult he was at every major event that created a new nation.
