Memorial Day originated at the end of the Civil War when communities around the country decorated the graves of soldiers who had died during the war. In this program, Historian/Curator Nick Sacco (Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site) explores the history of Memorial Day and how both Unionists and former Confederates commemorated their war dead. He will also examine the holiday’s evolution and what it means for us today.
