Description
One of the central artists associated with the American Regionalism movement, Thomas Hart Benton strayed from the modernist trend toward abstraction in favor of a more representational, though stylized, approach. Born in Neosho, MO, Benton created paintings and murals depicting the realities of rural life and the pressures of industrialization. His fluid, sculpted forms characterize subjects from all walks of American life.
