Description

Spanning from 3500 BCE to the 16th century CE, the Mound Builder cultures shaped ancient North America through monumental earthworks. This session explores key periods—from Archaic and Woodland to Mississippian—and highlights Cahokia Mounds, the largest pre-Columbian site north of Mexico. At its peak around 1100, Cahokia covered 4,000 acres, featured 120 mounds, and had a population nearing 20,000—larger than London at the time.
