Vincent Van Gogh created 70 paintings in the last 70 days of his life. His striking portrait of Dr. Paul Gachet, painted in 1890, is one of the most famous and revered works done during this intensely creative period. In 1990, the portrait sold at auction for $82.5 million ($163.4 million today), making it the world’s most expensive painting at that time. This program tells the story behind the creation of this famous image and the relationship between the artist and the doctor. In addition, you’ll learn about the painting’s unusually eventful history, including the bizarre circumstances that surround its current location.

This is a Hybrid class, you may join in person or via Zoom.
