Description
This course begins with an introductory discussion on the place of art in American Indian cultures. We will span several of the major cultural areas in North America. From there, we look at specific images of many artifacts containing symbols and complex imagery. A study of American Indian ethnography and oral traditions has opened up new understanding regarding the meaning of these symbols and the arts in general.
