A utopia is an intentional community, an ideal place or society. Missouri has seen a number of intentional communities in the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries. So much so, that UMSL publishes an academic journal called “Utopian Studies”. Doug Schneider will talk about the movements that have created utopian communities in St. Louis, St. Louis County, and in Missouri – inspired by philosophy or ecology or urbanism or religion or education.
